Farewell to Summer

It never ceases to amaze me how fast a summer can go. This summer was certainly no exception. The awards have been given out, the clubhouse closed, and the floating docks removed. We were blessed with a wonderful sailing season this summer with minimal disruption!

In our short 8-week season, we hosted Commodore's Cocktails, CYC Beach Days, (TWO!) Luncheons, an educational Evening on the Bay, Sailing School Picnic, Karaoke Evening, Last Hurrah and record breaking Regatta Gala.

None of those memorable events could have happened without the contributions of so many. As a Club that runs on volunteerism, there were countless people involved in making this summer a success. Thank you!

We offer special thanks to Schuyler Bartlett, our valued Program Director.  This summer Schuyler oversaw 8 sailing school classes, sent race teams, coaches and boats to many away regattas, managed a fleet of CYC boats, and supervised a staff of over 20. While doing all this, she kept our sailors safe and happy both on and off the water.  We could not have had as successful a sailing season without her. We are lucky to have you, Schuyler!

The club is also indebted to all the people who lend their boats; without them the program would not be possible. In particular, the crew class and adult sailing classes would not happen without all the amazing Beetle and Catboat owners who lend their boats. Thank you!

I am tremendously grateful for our (newly retired!) Commodore, Marshall Bartlett. Marshall’s dedicated stewardship and cheerful diligence will serve as guiding principles to all who follow. By undertaking and spearheading the successful Centennial Campaign, Marshall ensured that CYC is in the position to take care of the club’s immediate needs and is prepared for the next hundred years. This was a herculean undertaking. Future generations of CYC sailors will have Marshall and all our donors to thank.  Thank you!

It is an honor to serve as your new Commodore of such an incredible organization. Thank you for the privilege and thank you in advance for your support as we are already preparing for the 2024 season!

Chatham Yacht Club Executive, Sailing Series and Sailing School Awards were presented during the closing meeting on August 19th.  Congratulations to each of you!

CYC SUMMER SNAPSHOT - What a summer!

• 130 registrants in the Sailing School
• Over 200 sailors registered for the CYC Regatta
• Multiple successful social events, Commodore's Cocktails, CYC Beach Days, (TWO!) Luncheons,  Evening on the bay, Sailing School Picnic, Karaoke Evening, Last Hurrah and more!
• Regatta Gala Dinner hosted over 200 member!
• Optimist Race Team members were top tier in all regattas.
• 420 Race Team members  were top finishers in every regatta  they entered during the summer.
• In the Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association Wesley Durant Team-Racing Trophy regatta, the CYC 420 Race Team competed against thirteen other clubs and placed second this season.

THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who helped to clean and close our clubhouse and grounds.  It's no easy task but this year went very smoothly and we finished in no time.  CYC would not be able to open or close without your elbow grease, we are GRATEFUL.  See you next June when it's time to do it in reverse!

 STAFF APPRECIATION FUND

Our sailing school staff has done a wonderful job this year! If you feel positive about the job these hard working young people have done for the last eight weeks, or if you want to give an extra thank you for your child's sailing school experience, please donate to the staff appreciation fund.  The club uses these funds to give bonuses to the teachers.   *This year, during the closing meeting, CYC voted and approved mathing donations to the staff appreciation fund up $5,000.

Prepare for the HOLIDAYS and place your CYC gear orders early!    Due to the custom and made-on-demand nature of the CYC gear, please allow for extended lead times to receive.  We have been advised that all orders for the December holidays should be placed by November 7th.

Any boats in the mooring field should be checked before and after - regardless if this is during the open CYC season or after this weekend.
