volunteer opportunities

CYC relies on all members to volunteer to maintain our community culture, keep costs affordable and our children safe.

The more you can do to help, the more fun.

We ask that each family sign up for at least one Parent On Duty shift per child, at least one Regatta slot, at least two Race Day slots and at least one Social Volunteer slot.

Jump to VOLUNTEER QUESTIONS Or contact: Alicia Downs or Sarah Lipson for assistance.

where we need your help:

PARENT ON DUTY:

Please sign up for at least one shift per child in sailing school over the summer. You will help with tasks around the clubhouse (organization and sanitation requests are outlined in a document on the CYC pinboard). Once complete, you are welcome to watch your sailor in action, read a book etc until pick up.

RACE DAYS:

Please sign up for at least two Race Day volunteer slots. Race Day volunteer needs include:

  • Refreshments: Bringing and serving snacks after races including 4 bags of nut free salty snacks and 4 packages of nut free cookies.
  • Race Patrol: Motorboat owners can help monitor the races every Tuesday and Saturday and at the CYC Regatta. It’s a great way to have a front row seat of the action while assuring the safety of our sailors.
  • Race Dock Committee: Volunteers on Tuesday and Saturday register racers, set off the start for each of the classes and finish the racers.
  • Race Scoring: Volunteers assist with series scoring.

REGATTA:

Please sign up for at least one Regatta donation/volunteer opportunity. CYC hosts one of the only free regattas on the Cape. In order to keep within budget, we rely on members contributing in some way. There are many small needs for the regatta including cases of bottled water, granola bars, watermelons, donuts, bagels, coffee etc as well as some bigger needs such as the traditional cake with the CYC Logo.

SOCIAL:

Please sign up for at least one social volunteer slot. CYC has many fun events over the course of the summer and volunteers are needed to help organize, set up, provide supplies and clean up. Events include the 4th of July Parade, the Strawberry Social, Commodore’s Cocktails, the Regatta Dinner and the Last Hurrah Cocktail Party.

In an effort to consolidate CYC Volunteer opportunities in one easy to access place on your mobile device, we are using Volunteer Scheduler Pro (VSP) this summer.  Please see the helpful tips below:

The first step is to set up an account by enrolling to volunteer HERE.

You will need to create a NEW username and password (the system is not pre populated with your CYC wild apricot username and password since only you know your password).

As part of the sign up process, you should select which activities you would like to volunteer for. Some individuals only volunteer for Race Patrol, while others volunteer for all the options.

The next step, if you choose to access the sign up on your mobile device, is to download the app on the app store. From there, you will need to select CYC in Chatham, MA.

To volunteer, select any open position you wish and click “volunteer now.” Please note you can sign up on the app or on the website.
